J. Edgar-Leonardo Dicaprio-Naomi Watts
For me this scene from the movie symbollic larger. J. Edgar Hoover is a film about a man who, like many of us, has many facets and aspects that made up who he is. He is very contradictory about which side he should describe openly and deliberately a bit awkward in his youth, which is in the movie portrayed, until finally deciding that J. Edgar Hoover that he would be. That side of him will live in an open and people who he would become, rightly or wrongly, with full confidence. The remainder of this film shows us the consequent problems, struggles and complications that follow from this choice.
I am worried that this film will not meet my expectations, others have rather unusual rating and the other negative, some of it seems really excited about it after having viewed it. In a way I can see where they came from. This is a long movie with a dark moody colors, almost as if Eastwood would like to be black and white, and lots of dialogue that moves pretty quickly without much to help the audience along or spelling everything. Beyond that, I really enjoyed this film and while it did not blow my mind or leave me with a big revelation about my own life it is a great movie experience and it has me thinking and entertained the entire time I watch it.
I'm not sure where all the reviews are more negative or critical comes from, maybe people have a high standard of innovative Eastwood and expected something, maybe they are just expecting something different, but after all the negative opinions or ho-hum I had heard about the film I was surprised and recommend it for fans of drama or biopics. I recommend it especially for those like me who have been waiting for this movie more interesting movie last season.
Maybe I enjoy it more because I have seen a line that is really awful new movie in theaters, the latest Jack and Jill before seeing this (that the movie was horrible, so horrible. I thought this would be bad but in the long funny way, it just bad). So maybe I was brought up during the pleasure of this film because of other recent films have left me underwhelmed and bored or want my money back. I have not seen a very good movie made in theaters since this assistance and have not even thought worthy of repeat viewings from the shock of 50/50. This film does not knock me out but I will definitely watch it again and will probably buy it even in Blu-ray because I want to be part of my collection and thought it would be more interesting on the front display.
People complain about old age make-up, never bother me at all although other reviewer comments made me more critical than usual. People say there are a lot of mimicking the president and the like that interfere with, the only one who feels like to me is a brief appearance towards the end of Richard Nixon for being so on top of it. People say it is dragging, but I never wish for it to hurry up or speed up together, I was always compelled by what is on screen. There have been complaints that the broken narrative confusing and jumping too much, it's pretty easy with just two lines of a case. Hoover in his old age to dictate his past to the manuscript and both expressed a chronological schedule and moving forward with each other. People say there is no real message or main theme to talk about, I think more deeply explore and repeat viewings will find they are better built than the others give the credit right now. Most of all though, although some found merit to the criticisms I have not found that one of them would make fun of the movie as a whole.
This movie will probably get a less positive review because people think it could have been so many things that do not. In the end I felt Eastwood and the writer took the direction and identity for this film and more like a J. Edgar they decided to move forward with confidence. This is what it is and not any negatives outweigh all the positives it brings in my opinion, but everyone will judge different movies I guess, like everyone has different opinions on J. Edgar Hoover man.
It also can help me that I am very interested in the history of this period. Also on how institutions like the FBI was constructed and came to be (the film did an excellent job in explaining how the firm slowly finding a way to gain power and independence). Anyways, this film provides an opportunity, I give it five stars because I may not LOVED the movie but I loved the experience of watching it, if that makes sense.
Now you should watch J. Edgar and J. Edgar Hoover!
